ZAIKO: First, please tell us each of your self-introductions and the background behind forming the trio. Let's start with Ao-iro 1-go, please!
KamiMura (Ao-iro 1-go): At first, we all partnered with different people, but all those partnerships disbanded. After that, I partnered with Enomoto and became "Ao-iro 1-go."
About two years later, the duo for the temporary name disbanded, but the material I write often requires three people. So, with the timing of that duo disbanding, we became a trio.

ZAIKO: How about Salbase?
Orida (Salbase): A trio from Kagoshima Prefecture, today the volcanic ash of laughter is flying high! We are Salbase! Nice to meet you!
ZAIKO: (applause)
Orida: Matsuyama and I were high school classmates and entered the Ota Pro training school as a duo called "Potenhit," but Tomoyapp was in a different duo at that time. Potenhit was active for about five years but had a bit of a rough patch. During that time, Tomoyapp also had to disband his duo.
Since Matsuyama is a rather carefree type, I wanted some powerful comic relief. So, I brought in Tomoyapp, and we became Salbase.
Matsuyama (Salbase): Just to correct, on January 1, 2020, Orida got dumped by the girlfriend he had been dating......
Orida: That happened......
Matsuyama: He was really crying a lot. On that day, he called Tomoyapp and invited him, saying, "Will you join me?" To fill the gap in his heart......
Orida: I didn't bring in Tomoyapp to fill in for my girlfriend!
Tomoyapp (Salbase): Basically, I do cross-dressing a lot. Mother, high school girl, office lady......
Orida: I'm not filling in any gaps!
KamiMura (Ao-iro 1-go): But you do resemble your ex-girlfriend.
Orida: I don't look like her! Not at all! Why on earth did I like that person!
KamiMura: What was your ex-girlfriend's catchphrase?
Tomoyapp: "Should we add some chili oil?"
All: (laughs)
Orida: That's not it, not it! What is this part about!
Tomoyapp: I was surprised! I also added chili oil!
Orida: … Yes, that's how it is.

ZAIKO: What do you think about each other?
Orida: Alright, let’s hear from the juniors! Ao-iro 1-go is a year ahead of me, but especially since my first year, I've always been cared for by KamiMura. For me, he is like the closest mentor.
In the end, due to various reasons, both teams formed into trios, and I find myself following in their footsteps, so to speak. … I probably shouldn’t say this, but I really respect all the seniors. However, among the seniors, there are quite a few who are... not very good.
All: (laughs)
Orida: Among those, KamiMura has continued without giving up and has achieved results. I admire that and have always aimed to catch up and surpass Ao-iro 1-go, but I still feel like I'm unable to catch up. He’s a cool senior! I really like KamiMura!

Tomoyapp: I lived in a share house with Kariya for about 5 to 6 years, but... seriously, his success and living environment do not match. To me, he doesn’t feel like a star.
All: (laughs)
Tomoyapp: He’s a lucky guy! He’s blessed to have a good partner and is just kind of doing comedy by chance, a guy who keeps absorbing luck.
Kariya: Using all his luck in gambling...
All: (laughs)
Tomoyapp: He’s terrible at gambling, went to the finals of the "ABC Comedy Grand Prix," and returned without saying a word (laughs). I've seen a lot of his pitiful appearances, but that makes him feel like a true comedian... a senior I can respect (in a small voice).
... So, with this, if there are episodes from Matsuyama and Enomoto, that’s great; the relationship here is super good, but really, these two... have no friends.
All: (laughs)
Orida: No, they’re fine!
Tomoyapp: Do you have any episodes?
Matsuyama: During training, I got to go as an extra for a reenactment VTR, and Enomoto was there at that time. After work, he took me to a udon shop... The first senior who treated me to a meal was Enomoto.
Tomoyapp: That’s right! Wasn’t it "CoCo Ichi"?!
Orida: It’s fine, anywhere!!
Enomoto (Ao-iro 1-go): Uhh... it was "Katsuya"!!!
Matsuyama & Tomoyapp: Ah! "Katsuya"!!
Tomoyapp: We were there too! (Enomoto's) first treat was from us, actually!
Enomoto: That’s right, the very first time I treated someone was Matsuyama and Tomoyapp.
Tomoyapp: Wasn’t it during that time, even though we were extras, we talked about how "I want to keep doing this kind of work instead of part-time jobs"? (laughs).
Enomoto: That’s right (laughs). We’ve been good friends since then and have been together ever since.
Tomoyapp: That's true, definitely!
Orida: Well, in a vague way, everyone likes Enomoto. We are Salbase. Vaguely!
Tomoyapp: It’s rare! (laughs)

ZAIKO: What do you think of Salbase from Ao-iro 1-go's perspective?
KamiMura: Well... They're one year below me... and they're not a threat! (laughs)
Orida: Still! Not yet!
KamiMura: There are many juniors whom I consider a threat, but Salbase is fine!
All: (laughs)
Tomoyapp: What do you mean by fine?
KamiMura: Well, they’re not very skilled at various things. They are similar to us in that they fail with their first attempt every time. But I think it would be interesting if these two groups become successful. We are who we are, and I think we are at a level where we are easy to chase, so if Salbase is a horse, I want us to be the carrot that always trails behind.
Orida: That’s not cool!
KamiMura: If Salbase is a horse, we are the carrots hanging out in front. A presence that they can never catch up to, yet makes them think maybe they can catch up.
Orida: What are you talking about? Is it okay to be a carrot?
Kariya:... I think of the entertainment industry as dirt, so to speak.
All: (silence & awkward laughter)
Tomoyapp: Sorry, I just arrived two minutes ago! (Note: On the day of the interview, Kariya arrived after the other five)

Orida: Is there anything from Kariya?
Kariya: Salbase is... bright, fun, and good guys. Popular with everyone. It’s enjoyable to be together. It’s really fun, and I think everyone loves them. I would be happy if everyone got excited together, yes.
Orida:
Don’t you want people who read this to find it emotional? Like, "These two groups are emotional!"
Kariya: But Orida said he doesn’t respect me, but he knew about my existence even before I became a comedian, or even before entering the training school. There’s a competition called "High School Manzai" where I took part, did Orida join too?
Orida: Yes. We were there as a duo called "Potenhit,” and I was with Matsuyama. Kariya came in under the name "Filters Choice."
I thought, "There’s another group with a baseball name! I wonder how they are" and saw them, and they were proper. I recognized, "This guy is my rival!" and continued to know about him throughout my college days in Fukuoka.
Kariya: We've been rivals since then. We are rivals still.
Orida: Since we are rivals, I want to win...!
ZAIKO: What about Enomoto?
Enomoto: We’re all doing late-night rehearsals together now. I’ve been with Salbase, and we’ve been honing our skills together, and I hope we can all succeed together... I’ve seen Tomoyapp since his days as a student comedian, though it’s one-sided, we’ve met each other. I'm glad that we can be together again like this...
Tomoyapp: I’m not happy about that.
Orida: There are many better relationships among student comedians...
Kariya: Enomoto was so bad as a student comedian that we weren’t on equal footing.
Tomoyapp: I was also bad among student comedians, so we are two weaklings... from way down below saying, "Oh, they were doing that!"
Enomoto: But I’m happy to see each other again here.
Tomoyapp: Enomoto and I are the same age. This group (KamiMura, Kariya, Matsuyama, Orida) feels a bit older, but this pair (Enomoto and Tomoyapp) are the same age, so even though he is a senior...
KamiMura: No, I’ve never seen two people connect like that!
Tomoyapp: No, we talk a lot about trivial things! Enomoto is the only one who shows me a real smile!
All: (laughs)
Tomoyapp: I doubt that the other four have seen it! No one has ever been to Enomoto's house! I’ve gone there many times!
Kariya: You’re not just going to see Enomoto, right? (laughs)
Tomoyapp: Yes. It’s fun because of others like Taisei ("Sentinel"). Well, well, there’s also the fact that Enomoto is a rare liar. It’s even suspicious if he was doing student comedy. I’ve never seen it!
KamiMura: That’s true.
Tomoyapp: Yes, he’s truly a suspicious person.
Enomoto: Don’t end it like that!
Next time, a surprise message from K-PRO representative, Mr. Kojima will arrive! Through the comments of the "Mother of Tokyo" watching over the two groups on site, we will unravel the passionate thoughts about comedy. Stay tuned!
