ZAIKO: First, please share your self-introduction and how you formed your trio. Let's start with Aoiro 1-go!

Kamimura (Aoiro 1-go): Everyone started out in pairs with different people, but they all disbanded. After that, I teamed up with Enomoto, and we became "Aoiro 1-go".
About two years later, the pair of Kariyama disbanded, but the sketches I write often require three people. So, given that Kariyama disbanded at that timing, we ended up as a trio.

4/14 Ota Pro Live "Getsusho" Aoiro 1-go: Kariyama, Kamimura, Enomoto

ZAIKO: How about Sarubase?

Orida (Sarubase): A trio from Kagoshima Prefecture, today more laughter volcanic ash is flowing! We are Sarubase! Nice to meet you!

ZAIKO: (applause)

Orida: Matsuyama and I were classmates in high school and entered Ota Pro's training school as the duo “Potential Hit”, but Tomoyapp was in a different duo at that time. Potential Hit was active for about five years, but there was a bit of a rough patch. At that timing, Tomoyapp was also set to disband their duo.
So, since Matsuyama has a rather free-spirited type, he wanted some powerful jokes. That’s why we brought Tomoyapp in and became Sarubase.

Matsuyama (Sarubase): Just to correct it, on New Year's Day 2020, Orida got dumped by his girlfriend he had been dating until then...

Orida: That happened...

Matsuyama: He cried a lot. And that day, I called Tomoyapp and asked him, "Will you join me?" To fill the hole in my heart...

Orida: I didn’t bring in Tomoyapp just to fill the girlfriend’s void!

Tomoyapp (Sarubase): Basically, I often cross-dress. Mother, high school girl, OL...

Orida: I didn’t fill any void!!

Kariyama (Aoiro 1-go): But, he resembles my ex-girlfriend.

Orida: He doesn’t resemble her at all! Not even a little!! Why did I ever like someone like that!!

Kamimura: What was your ex-girlfriend’s catchphrase?

Tomoyapp: "Shall I put in some chili oil?"

All: (laughs)

Orida: No, no!! What was that all about!!

Tomoyapp: I was surprised. I also put in chili oil!

Orida: ...Yes, that’s the kind of atmosphere.

ZAIKO: What do you think of each other?

Orida: Yes, let’s start from the junior side! Aoiro 1-go has been one year my senior, but I have particularly been very close to Kamimura who has always taken care of me since my first year. In my eyes, he is like my closest mentor.
After all that has happened, both pairs became trios, and it feels like I can follow in their footsteps...I shouldn’t say this too much, but honestly, I respect all of my seniors, but some seniors, who are just one year older... many of them are quite hopeless.

All: (laughs)

Orida: Among them, Kamimura has kept going without getting discouraged and has achieved results. I admire that kind of figure, and I have been trying to catch up with and surpass Aoiro 1-go, but even now I still feel that I can't catch up yet. He’s a cool senior! I really love Kamimura!

Aoiro Ichigo

Tomoyapp: I lived with Kariyama for about five or six years in a share house... But honestly, his success and living environment don’t really match. To me, he doesn’t feel like a star.

All: (laughs)

Tomoyapp: He's a lucky guy! He’s blessed with a great partner, he’s doing comedy by chance, and he’s a lucky guy who continues to absorb good fortune.

Kariyama: Used up all my gambling luck...

All: (laughs)

Tomoyapp: He’s completely hopeless at gambling, even though he went to the finals of the "ABC Comedy Grand Prix", he came back without making a single joke (laughs). I’ve seen a lot of those pitiful moments, but even so, he feels like a comedian... he's a senior I can respect (in a low voice).
...and when this happens, it would be great if Matsuyama and Enomoto have episodes, but seriously, those two... don’t get along with anyone...

All: (laughs)

Orida: No, they're fine!

Tomoyapp: Do you have any stories about them?

Matsuyama: Back in the training school, I went to an extra shoot for a reenactment VTR, and Enomoto was there at that time. After the job was over, he took me to a udon shop... Enomoto is the first senior who treated me to a meal.

Tomoyapp: That happened! Wasn't it at "CoCo Ichibanya"?

Orida: It’s fine, anywhere!!

Enomoto (Aoiro 1-go): Uh... at "Katsuya"!!!

Matsuyama & Tomoyapp: Ah! "Katsuya"!!

Tomoyapp: We were there too! (Enomoto's) first treat was us!

Enomoto: That’s right, the very first treat was by Matsuyama and Tomoyapp.

Tomoyapp: Back then, even though we were extras, didn’t we say, "I’d love to work like this forever"? "Not just part-time jobs, but something like this!" (laughs).

Enomoto: Exactly (laughs). We’ve been close since then, and we’ve been together all this time.

Tomoyapp: Yes, something like that!

Orida: Well, we all vaguely like Enomoto. We, Sarubase, like him. Vaguely!

Tomoyapp:: It’s rare for us! (laughs)

Aoiro Ichigo_Sarubase

ZAIKO: How does Aoiro 1-go see Sarubase?

Kamimura: Hmm... well, they’re one year younger... but they’re not a threat (laughs).

Orida: Not yet! Not yet!

Kamimura: There are many juniors who I think are threats, but Sarubase is okay!

All: (laughs)

Tomoyapp: What’s okay mean!

Kamimura: Well, they're not good at it, in various ways. They are similar to us, always failing on the first try. But if these two pairs become popular, that would be interesting. I think we are an existence that doesn’t become popular on our own but is easy to chase, so if Sarubase is a horse, we want to remain a carrot hanging in front of them.

Orida: Isn’t that less cool!

Kamimura: If Sarubase is a horse, we’re the carrot hanging out in front. A presence that they can never catch up to, but might think they could.

Orida: What are you saying? Is it okay to be a carrot?

Kariyama: ... I think of the entertainment industry as dirt, like soil.

All: (silence & awkward smile)

Tomoyapp: Sorry, I just arrived two minutes ago! (Note: On the day of the interview, Kariyama arrived late among the five.)

Aoiro 1-go_Sarubase

Orida: Don’t you have anything to say about Kariyama?

Kariyama: Sarubase is... bright, fun, and great guys. They are the popular ones. They are very enjoyable to be with. I think everyone loves them a lot. I’d be happy if we could all have a great time together.

Orida: Don’t you want people who read this to think it’s emotional!? "These two pairs are emotional!"

Kariyama: But Orida said... that he doesn’t respect me, but before I became a comedian, or rather, before entering the training school, he knew about me. There’s a comedy competition for high school students called "High School Manzai", and when I participated in it, was Orida in it too?

Orida: Yes. We were there with the duo "Potential Hit", I was with Matsuyama. Kariyama participated under the name "Fielder’s Choice". I thought, "There’s another team with a baseball name! I wonder how they are..." and when I saw them, they were quite good. I designated, "This guy is a rival!" and continued doing it in Fukuoka during my university years, so I had always known him.

Kariyama: Always a rival. Still a rival now.

Orida: Because he’s a rival, I want to win...!

ZAIKO: How about Enomoto?

Enomoto: We’ve always been practicing together late at night like this. We’ve been with Sarubase continuously, so we’re sharpening each other, but I hope we can all succeed together... and I’ve watched Tomoyapp since he was a student comedian; it’s one-sided, but I feel like I’ve seen him. I’m glad to be able to be in this situation again.

Tomoyapp: I’m not really that happy about it.

Orida: There were plenty of better relationships among student comedians...

Kariyama: Enomoto was way too weak as a student comedian, so it’s hard to be on par.

Tomoyapp: I too was weak among student comedians, so it’s like two weaklings... from a much lower level, looking back and thinking, "Oh, they were doing that!"

Enomoto: But I’m happy to see you again here.

Tomoyapp: Enomoto and I are the same age. It feels like there’s a bit of an age gap with these four (Kamimura, Kariyama, Matsuyama, Orida). However, here (Enomoto, Tomoyapp) we’re the same age, so even though he’s my senior...

Kamimura: No, no, I’ve never seen those two connected like that!

Tomoyapp: No, no! We talk quite a bit, silly stuff! Enomoto is the only one who shows me a real smile!

All: (laughs)

Tomoyapp: I bet the four have never seen that! You haven’t even been to Enomoto’s house, have you, everyone! I’ve been there several times!

Kariyama: You’re not just going to meet Enomoto, right? (laughs).

Tomoyapp: Yes. It’s fun because there are people like Taisei ("Sentinel"). Well, well, well... also, Enomoto is a rare liar. I’m suspicious he even did student comedy. I’ve never seen it!

Kamimura: That’s true, indeed.

Tomoyapp: Yes, he’s really a suspicious person.

Enomoto: Don’t end it like that!

In the next episode, a surprise message from Mr. Kojima, the head of K-PRO, arrives! From the comments of "Tokyo's Mother" watching over the two pairs on site, we will unravel their passionate feelings about comedy. Stay tuned!
